Wayne Rooney has now led Derby County to a second straight defeat following the 2-1 loss at the hands of fellow strugglers Barnsley in a six-pointer as far as the English Championship is concerned. Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney became the Derby County manager just before the midway point of last season and he was able to secure Championship safety for the Rams on the final day of the season.

In his first full season in charge of the Derby County squad, Wayne Rooney led his team to just three defeats in the first fourteen (14) games of the season. Since then, they have lost two straight games to Blackburn Rovers (home) and Barnsley (away).

Rooney and Derby County were on a run of five games without defeat before they were beaten 2-1 by Blackburn Rovers last week Saturday. They had won one and drawn four of those five matches before the defeat to the former Premier League winners. The Rams started the unbeaten run on the back of the slim 1-0 defeat to hosts Sheffield United with ten men after goalkeeper KelleRoos was sent off for a professional foul.

For the Blackburn Rovers game, Derby County raced into a two-goal deficit at the halftime interval thanks to the brace from Chilean national team star Ben Bereton. Bereton has been one of the standout performers in the English Championship this season and he scored twice in the space of twelve (12) minutes to hand his team a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first 45 minutes. Derby County defender Curtis Davies pulled one back with one minute left as Blackburn held on afterwards for a crucial win in their hunt for a playoff slot.

Barnsley recorded the same 2-1 scoreline against Derby County with goals from Victor Adeboyejo and Aaron Leya, while Sam Baldock scored the lone goal for the Rams.
